Fall 2020 Research Fellowship Competition Awards Announced

CanVECTOR has awarded two trainees with Research Fellowship Awards in the Fall 2020 Research Training Awards competition. A total of $90,000 (CAD) in funding was granted in this competition to support research training in venous thromboembolism (VTE) at Canadian centres.

Dr. Vicky Mai and Dr. Yan Xu, University of Ottawa, were each awarded $40,000 in salary funding support. Additionally, for the first time, the network has awarded the competition's top rated applicant, Dr. Mai, with the Clive Kearon CanVECTOR Fellowship Award.

In memory of the late Dr. Clive Kearon, the Clive Kearon CanVECTOR Fellowship Award, established by CanVECTOR's Scientific Steering Committee (SSC) in 2020, will be offered to the top-rated applicant in the Research Fellowship Awards competition on an annual basis. This award will consist of an additional $10,000 prize

Competition Winners: Trainees | Projects 

  • Dr. Vicky Mai, University of Ottawa
    • Project title: Pulmonary embolism in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease exacerbation.
    • Funding: $40,000 + $10,000 Clive Kearon CanVECTOR Fellowship Award.
  • Dr. Yan Xu, University of Ottawa
    • Project title: Evaluation of Oral Anticoagulant-Related Bleeding Definitions in Orthopedic Surgery Patients.
    • Funding: $40,000
