Fall 2020 CIHR Project Grant Competition Results Annouced

03-22-2021

The Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) recently announced the results of their Fall 2020 Project Grant competition, and the network is thrilled to announce that four CanVECTOR-led thrombosis studies were awarded project funding in this competition for a total of $2.78 million (CAD).

PANTHER-GI, led by Dr. Deborah Siegal, PEITHO 3, led by members Dr. Kerstin de Wit and Dr. Lana Castellucci, Peripartum Anticoagulation, led by Dr. Leslie Skeith, Dr. Isabelle Malhamé, and Dr. Ann Malinowski, and TRIM-Line , led by Dr. Marc Carrier and Dr. Rick Ikesaka, involve 30 clinical investigators in multiple sites from across the network and country. The results of the competition speak not only to the incredible group of researchers in the network but to the important collaborative links established between our members.

All funded projects involve several members at multiple sites, including many early career investigators who have persevered through unsuccessful grant applications for the same studies.

Funding CanVECTOR-led Thrombosis Studies

  • PANTHER-GI: Post-Bleed Management of Antithrombotic Therapy after Gastrointestinal Bleeding: A Mixed-Methods Study of Patient Values and Preferences.
  • PEITHO 3: Reduced-dose thrombolytic treatment for patients with higher-intermediate risk acute pulmonary embolism.
  • Peripartum Anticoagulation: A prospective cohort study evaluating peripartum anticoagulation management among pregnant women with VTE and its impact on patient outcomes
  • TRIM-Line: Primary thromboprophylaxis with rivaroxaban in patients with malignancy and central venous catheters.
