2022 Research Start-up Competition Awards Announced

MONTREAL, January 28, 2022 – In Fall 2021, CanVECTOR's Training, Mentoring, & Early Career Development platform held it's 2022 Research Start-up Awards competition. The competition is intended to help trainees achieve their research objectives through project start-up funds for a research project or pilot work to strengthen their thrombosis research.

 The Network is thrilled to announce that five trainees have been awarded with Research Start-up Awards of up to $2,500 (CAD) for a total of $9,000 (CAD)!

The following trainees /projects were awarded for this year’s competition:

  • Mona Aflaki, MD, PhD (McGill University) – Effect of DOACs vs VKAs on Blood Transfusion Among Patients with Acute Hip Fractures.
  • Sandrine Hamel, MD (McGill University) – To Develop a Patient Information Tool for Pregnant Patients requiring Urgent Diagnostic Testing for PE (CTPA and V/Q Scan).
  • Yousra Tera, MD, MSc, PhD (Queen's University) – Novel Tools to Assess and Predict the Risk of Cancer-Associated Thrombosis in Women Undergoing Chemotherapy for Breast and Gynecological Cancer.
  • Daniyya Chaudhry, MSc Candidate (University of Calgary) – Duration of Hypercoagulability Following Elective Total Hip and Total Knee Arthroplasty.
  • Cristina Pop, MD, CM (McGill University) – Exploring Alternative Approaches of Using the Villalta Scale to Capture the Post-Thrombotic Syndrome: A Sub-analysis of the ATTRACT Trial.
