Mourning the Loss of Dr. Clive Kearon

06-08-2020

Dear CanVECTOR community;

It is with deep regret and profound sadness that we share with you news of the recent passing of Dr. Clive Kearon, co-lead of our Clinical Trials & Shared Platforms, and a dear friend, colleague, and mentor to so many.

Dr. Kearon, a Professor of Medicine at McMaster University, practiced thrombosis medicine at Hamilton Health Sciences for nearly 30 years. He was internationally recognized for his major research contributions, leadership, and mentorship as a clinician-scientist and trialist in thrombosis medicine and research.

Dr. Kearon was an instrumental figure in the development and success of the Canadian Venous Thromboembolism Research Network. He was the inaugural co-lead of the Clinical Trials & Shared Platforms platform, helping to establish and oversee the network’s five national Pilot Trials competitions. To many in our community, Dr. Kearon’s work with the Training, Mentoring, and Early Career Development platform to promote best practices for pilot trails has been paramount in supporting emerging researchers and in helping to build capacity for research related to venous thromboembolism.

Whether through his academic scholarly positions, as an internationally renowned clinician-scientist, as a leader in thrombosis medicine and research, or simply as a friend and colleague, Dr. Kearon’s thoughtful feedback, humour and wit, and generosity and humility was greatly appreciated and will be missed by so many.

Sincerely,

Susan and Marc
