CanVECTOR Fall 2019 Research Fellowship / Studentship Competition Results Announced


MONTREAL, January 24, 2020 - - The CanVECTOR Network has awarded one Fellowship award and two Studentship awards for three trainees pursuing research training in thromboembolism at a Canadian Centre for a total funding amount of $90,000.

The Research Training Awards are a bi-annual network award competition intended to provide financial support for highly qualified, promising trainees or fellows to allow them to pursue research training in thromboembolism (VTE) at a Canadian research training institution.

The following trainees /projects were awarded for the fall cycle competition:


  • Dr. Joseph Shaw (University of Ottawa) for the project titled: Global Assessment of Hemostatic TGA Indices Following the Use of Prothrombin Complex Concentrates for Major Bleeding or Urgent Surgery in Patients Treated with Factor Xa Inhibitors: GAUGE - A Prospective Observational Cohort Study. - - $50,000.


  • Ying (Crystal) Dai (McMaster University) for the project titled: An in vivo thrombin activity assay to determine the relationship between prothrombin levels and thrombosis. - - $20,000.
  • Neha Sharma (McMaster University) for the project titled: Exploring the effectiveness of Vasoflux, a non-anticoagulant heparin, as an inhibitor of neutrophil-derived procoagulant molecules. - - $20,000.
