Deborah Siegal, MD, MSc

Dr. Siegal graduated from Queen’s University School of Medicine in 2009. She completed Internal Medicine and Hematology training at McMaster University. She holds Master of Science degrees in Pharmacology (University of Toronto) and Health Research Methodology (McMaster University).

Dr. Siegal is currently  Associate Professor, Department of Medicine, Division of Hematology, at the University of Ottawa. Her primary research interests include (i) improving patient outcomes after anticoagulant-related bleeding, (ii) emergency management of anticoagulants for acute bleeding or urgent surgery, (iii) understanding the factors that influence patient and physician decision-making after anticoagulant-related bleeding, and (iv) reducing red blood cell transfusion by minimizing iatrogenic blood loss for laboratory testing.

Dr. Siegal has expertise in the design and conduct of pragmatic cluster randomized trials, individual patient randomized trials, mixed-methods studies, observational studies and meta-analyses. She has received peer-reviewed grant support as principal investigator from the American Society of Hematology, CanVECTOR/Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, Ontario AFP Innovation Fund, Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation, and the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). She has published over 65 articles including high-impact peer-reviewed journals including The New England Journal of MedicineCirculationBlood and Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis.
